Understanding Heat Pumps

A heat pump is a heating and cooling system that transfers heat from one place to another. It works by extracting heat from the air or ground outside your home and transferring it inside to warm your home during the winter. In the summer, it reverses the process to cool your home. There are three types of heat pumps: air-source, ground-source, and water-source. Air-source heat pumps are the most common type and work by extracting heat from the air outside your home. Ground-source heat pumps, also known as geothermal heat pumps, extract heat from the ground using a series of pipes buried underground. Water-source heat pumps extract heat from a nearby body of water.

Viessmann launches lower output Vitocal 150/151-A air source heat pumps

Three new variants expand Viessmann’s top-selling ASHP range, which are perfectly sized for home modernisation boiler replacements.

Viessmann has added three new, lower output variants to its popular Vitocal 150-A/151-A domestic air source heat pump range. The 4, 6 and 8 kW models complement the existing 10, 13 and 16 kW heat pumps launched in 2022, providing a wider choice of outputs and allowing heating modernisation projects suited to a broader range of properties.

New ultra-quiet Vitocal heat pumps launched in Ireland

Precision Heating has announced the launch of two new air source heat pumps with innovative noise reduction technology, the Viessmann Vitocal 200-A and 222-A.

“Both operate so quietly that they are suitable for densely built-up areas such as terraced housing estates, and both have high energy efficiency with low operating costs,” a statement from Viessmann read.

With outputs of 4 to 16 kW, and with a reversible circuit within a single unit to enable switching between heating and cooling, the Vitocal 200-A and 222-A are identical except that the 222-A has an integrated 220-litre domestic hot water cylinder.
