Viessmann Deutschland GmbH builds another solar thermal energy system on the island of Föhr

Viessmann Deutschland GmbH is building a district heating network based on solar thermal energy on the popular German vacation island of Föhr.

The construction of another large-scale solar thermal energy plant on the North Sea island of Föhr began in early February 2025. The collectors of the solar thermal system cover a total area of 3,076 m2.

Allendorf (Eder)/ Föhr, Germany, July 2, 2025 – The construction of another large-scale solar thermal energy plant on the North Sea island of Föhr began in early February 2025. The Energiegenossenschaft Föhr eG is continuing its efforts to make the popular vacation island even more sustainable. The Viessmann Deutschland GmbH is responsible for the implementation and construction of the turnkey system. The company is part of Viessmann Climate Solutions, which belongs to Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), global leader in intelligent climate and energy solutions.

Large-scale project for more renewable energies

Föhr, known for its beautiful landscape and as a popular tourist destination in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, is increasingly focusing on sustainable energy sources. In addition to existing initiatives to use renewable energy, the island will significantly expand its capacity by installing a new, state-of-the-art solar thermal energy system. This project underlines Föhr’s commitment to protecting the environment and reducing its ecological footprint. Föhr’s island location offers ideal conditions for solar thermal energy, as the solar radiation is above average.

The district heating network based on solar thermal energy is designed to produce more than one gigawatt hour (GWh) of heat per year. This corresponds to a renewable energy share of > 23% of Energiegesellschaft Föhr eG’s total heating requirements. The collectors of the solar thermal system cover a total area of 3,076 m2. Energiegenossenschaft Föhr eG put this large-scale project out to tender and Viessmann Deutschland GmbH came out on top against the other competitors. The contract includes the design and construction of the turnkey solar thermal system, a 500 m3 buffer storage tank and a prefabricated technical building. This will include the solar unit, the heat exchanger and the control system.

Ready for operation as of June 2025

The system is to be fully operational in June 2025 and will lead to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions on Föhr from that point onwards. The system is already the third solar thermal system to be taken into operation by Viessmann Climate Solutions in Germany in June 2025. The construction of the solar thermal systems and other planned projects show that district heating networks and the large-scale use of solar thermal energy as a heat source are becoming increasingly important in Germany.

“We are proud to be able to implement this solar thermal project together with the Energiegenossenschaft Föhr eG. The potential of climate technology as part of the district heating supply in Germany is huge – both from a social and financial perspective. The form of energy is renewable, the technology is reliable and the cost and CO₂ savings are attractive for the system operators,” says Dr. Conrad Wiedeler, Managing Director Viessmann Deutschland GmbH.

The system produces district heating from renewable energies – saving many tons of CO₂ emissions every year. Another plus point for the project are the more predictable prices. This new district heating project will enable the Energiegenossenschaft Föhr eG to cover a large part of its annual heating requirements for the next 30 years and calculate costs in advance.

Jan-Hauke Riewerts, Brar Hinrichsen, Dirk Lehmann and Alexander Schweizer, Management Board of Energiegenossenschaft Föhr eG, would like to thank all parties involved for enabling the construction of this important district heating project to begin. They are looking forward to commissioning the new solar thermal district heating system in June 2025. The inauguration ceremony is planned for August 17, 2025.

In the event of service issues, the app guides the user in replacing necessary spare parts and ensures that the firmware of Viessmann One Base systems is updated automatically.

Continuous Monitoring of the Vitocharge VX3

For quick responses to faults, the professional partner uses ViGuide Pro. They can monitor the energy systems of their customers online. Algorithms assist in detecting anomalies in operation—before a real malfunction occurs. Parameters can often be corrected without needing to visit the site. A new feature is the continuous monitoring of the Vitocharge VX3 energy storage system, which displays various parameters online. This provides the user with the best possible service for their entire energy system from a single source.

Customizable Interface

The ViGuide web interface can be customized by the professional partner to their preferences. Important and frequently used tiles (buttons) can be placed so that they are immediately visible upon login, while less relevant tiles are moved down. The board function allows an alternative view to be selected for better visibility of essential operational information. The update has improved user-friendliness for higher flexibility and individuality.

ViGuide PRO Offers the Best Service

The optional ViGuide PRO package ensures a worry-free operation and satisfied end-users. This comprehensive service and maintenance package helps professionals recognize and address faults promptly. Additional benefits include detailed fault analysis and continuous inspection of the heating system.

An extension, ViGuide Business, is designed for landlords, contractors, and commercial system operators. Beyond the capabilities of ViGuide, it enables systems from multiple locations to be monitored at a glance and base settings to be made online if necessary. Different partners can also be assigned for service and maintenance.

Viessmann remains committed to its mission of offering innovative solutions that meet the demands of modern energy supply while placing customer satisfaction at the forefront.

ViGuide Planning: A Powerful Web Tool for Efficient Energy System Planning

A well-thought-out plan is crucial for the successful implementation of an energy system: ViGuide Planning is a powerful web tool that provides comprehensive solutions for designing and accurately sizing heat pumps, photovoltaic (PV) systems, and battery storage, as well as for targeted proposal generation—all on a single platform. Previously, professionals had to rely on various independent planning tools for individual applications.

All Functions in One Project

ViGuide Planning brings all relevant data into a central project folder, saving time and costs. Partners, sales, and pre-sales teams have shared access to the projects and can even collaborate on them. Additionally, it is now possible to create up to three different variants within a project to plan and compare different scenarios. The app is also seamlessly integrated into the proposal process through the proposal assistant and into the purchase process via the PartnerShop.

Data-Driven Heating System Design in No Time

What used to take hours can now be done in no time with ViGuide Planning. To plan a new heat pump system, the prerequisite is a connected system with operational data documented over a period of at least two years (user behavior, heating demand, etc.). Based on this concrete data, the heat pump is precisely designed to meet the current needs of the operator. The user does not need to be involved, as the data for their property is already available, eliminating guesswork. The risk of an undersized or oversized system is excluded, and the time required is minimal.

Quick, TÜV-Certified Calculations

In just a few minutes, ViGuide Planning provides TÜV-certified calculation data for norm- and GEG-compliant planning. The automatic transfer of the heating load calculation ensures correct sizing and prevents transfer errors, as the base data for the property only needs to be entered once. Continuous updates allow ViGuide Planning to support the economical planning of energy systems for multi-family buildings, expanding the service offering and opening up new target groups such as the housing industry.

Future-Proof and GEG-Compliant Solutions

Since the introduction of the Building Energy Act (GEG), ViGuide Planning checks whether the planned systems comply with legal requirements. Automatically, suitable solutions and combinations are suggested, such as gas condensing boilers with heat pumps or solar thermal systems. Partners are supported in their advisory role, particularly with fossil heat generators that will require a minimum share of biogenic fuels or green/blue hydrogen by 2040. In return, market partners benefit from an efficient tool focused on “green” energy systems.

Security and Peace of Mind

As usual, the Viessmann specialist partner creates a custom offer for the desired system. In the installment offer, services such as installation, spare parts, maintenance, and all repairs are included in the monthly rate. For PV systems, a PV insurance policy for the entire term is also included. If performance drops by 30% or more, the modules will be replaced free of charge. Additionally, the homeowner benefits from government subsidies (Federal funding for efficient buildings (BEG)) for a heat pump, which is directly applied to the monthly rate. Pre-financing of the subsidy amount is also covered.

Heat+Power Offer Calculator

With the updated offer calculator, specialist partners can calculate installment-based offers themselves. The user-friendly interface allows a quick response to customer inquiries. Pricing has also been optimized, helping to reduce the monthly payments. When a customer decides to invest in a system solution, they benefit from lower energy costs from day one.

Support for PV and Battery System Installation and Commissioning

Short-term appointments in the trades are rare. Many Viessmann specialist partners are also fully booked due to their focus on their core business. They have little time for additional tasks. This especially affects the installation of photovoltaic systems and storage batteries, which involve significant bureaucratic efforts.

Efficient and Safe Heating System Management

Viessmann has introduced a new control room service designed to operate heating systems efficiently and safely while reducing service costs. This innovative service offers daily remote inspections with inspection reports to ensure stable and efficient operation and relieve the professional partner.

The control room service includes remote settings, efficiency improvements, simple fault corrections, and proactive fault and malfunction detection, ensuring the system operates reliably without unnecessary downtime and at maximum efficiency.

The Control Center Service Relieves Specialist Partners

If on-site measures are necessary, these will be closely coordinated between Viessmann and the specialist partner. This way, for the specialist partner, traveling to the customer for a service call will only be necessary when it is truly required, such as for routine maintenance or repairs. With the new control center service, system operators benefit from an economical, reliable, and long-lasting function of their heating system. The control center service is the perfect complement to ViGuide PRO, where the service is entirely handled by the specialist partner, as well as to Comfort+ contracts, where the service is completely managed by Viessmann.

With this new offering, Viessmann takes another step towards digitalization and efficiency enhancement in the heating industry. The control center service is not only a solution for cost reduction but also contributes to improving service quality and customer satisfaction.

Innovative Services for Efficient Energy Use

Viessmann is expanding its offering with innovative products and systems, complemented by additional services. These innovations offer numerous benefits for both energy system owners and craft businesses. Users are facilitated on their path to efficient and sustainable energy use, while specialist partners receive digital support to focus more on their core business.

Viessmann “Energy Designers” – SubsidyPro and AdminPro Under One Roof

Viessmann today announced the introduction of its new service, “Energy Designers,” which combines the proven tools SubsidyPro and AdminPro under one roof. This innovative approach aims to minimize bureaucratic efforts for customers and ensure secure processing. The new name represents Viessmann’s expanded product range and focuses on many aspects related to energy-efficient renovation.

With “Energy Designers,” Viessmann is not only opening up more to end customers but also remains strong in the B2B segment. Those who value security and comfort are well-advised with Viessmann Heat+Power. The user receives a complete energy system consisting of heating and photovoltaic (PV) systems, optionally with a storage battery and/or charging station. Individual components are also available. Instead of a one-time investment, the customer can acquire the equipment through a monthly installment plan, including comprehensive service.

How Viessmann Heat+Power Works

The homeowner enters into a contract with Viessmann for a period of 10, 15, or 20 years. The typical contract duration for heating systems is 10 or 15 years, and for PV systems, it’s 20 years. If desired, a one-time down payment of up to 30% can be made, reducing the monthly rate while keeping the service unchanged.

Installation Support Overcomes Capacity Shortages

Now, Viessmann’s Installation Support helps overcome capacity shortages. A project-specific takeover of the installation and commissioning of PV and battery systems is at the core of this new Viessmann service. This is particularly beneficial for specialist partners who have rarely or never installed such systems before. In addition to a lack of manpower, insufficient knowledge in detailed planning, application, installation, quality assurance, and other aspects may also be a barrier. Qualified installation experts ensure secure execution of tasks and high customer satisfaction. This enables the specialist partner to generate additional orders, offer system solutions to their customers, expand their expertise, and still focus on their core business.

Reliable Project Coordination by Viessmann

The Viessmann project coordinator is a dedicated contact person for the specialist partner, and especially for the end customer and installation teams. They coordinate the site inspection, check feasibility, submit necessary applications, and liaise with the network operator. They reliably take care of the fine-tuning and finally create project documentation.

To keep up with the continuous progress of technology, ongoing education is necessary. Like many other industries, the SHK trades must adapt to these changes.

Viessmann Academy – Training That Inspires

Modern heating and cooling solutions increasingly require knowledge and skills in electrical and refrigeration technology. For decades, the Viessmann Academy has provided a wide range of offerings to keep industry professionals up to date. But knowledge is only useful if it can be applied in practice. Whether it’s basic knowledge, product updates, or service training – the Viessmann Academy’s offerings inspire and prepare specialist partners for everyday professional life.

Extensive offerings for everyday professional life

Viessmann’s training program is closely aligned with the typical processes of the HVAC trade: In hands-on, practical seminars, small groups directly train on energy systems, learning the safe handling of product installation and maintenance, tools, and accessories. Key topics also cover the connectivity of heat pumps, boilers, ventilation units, and battery storage systems. Information about the constantly changing legislation regarding energy savings and climate protection is also included.

In addition to in-person training, live online seminars and videos complement the learning experience. The instructors demonstrate the processes and techniques interactively and practically, explaining each step in detail. The proximity to the products and the direct exchange with the instructors ensure that participants always have a front-row seat.

This makes the Viessmann Academy’s training program particularly focused on helping professionals tackle the daily challenges of their work. Online seminars can be booked directly via the Viessmann Learning Space. Sales consultants responsible for professional partners are happy to provide further information.
